Optimisation of Quality of Services (QoS) of wireless transmission in multi-paths environment

In few years, the more and more important introduction of information technologies and communication in various domains (health, transportation, domestic environment, etc.) become a major social and economic issue. Indeed, every field introduces its own constraints which, within the framework of this program, will be studied under the angle of the systems of wireless communication. On these systems, these constraints can be considered through the notion of quality of services (QoS) because it allows adapting a system to requests such as  radio coverage, data rate, acceptable information losses, delays of transmission… Besides, it is also necessary to underline that, in most of the contexts, the environment of transmission is difficult in terms of multi-paths wave propagation and the authorized radiation conditions and information security of transfer can be different. Constraints about energy autonomy can also exist specifically for wireless sensors networks.

We put in place a system approach, based on the following general principal: the strategic transmission choices (coding, modulation, equalization, etc.) are guided both by the desired QoS and the channel’s limitations. To guarantee a QoS level for a given radio link, we must identify the most pertinent parameters in the transmission process to immunize the information against the main causes of degradation, notably compression and channel.

The program can be separated into two complementary axes: the first, which is based on broadband radio technology, and the second that explores Optical wireless solutions with the long-term goal of interoperability.
