SYSCOM: COMmunication SYStems

Research activities of the SYSCOM team aim at optimizing the quality and/or the robustness of the radio link for wireless multimedia communication systems in complex environment (dense urbain, indoor, etc) and in a wide frequency band (from some GHz to several ten-gigahertz). Furthermore, these activities could be regarded in a networks context (mobile, ad hoc, heterogeneous sensors, etc) ; in this way, they seem like centered on the "physical" layer with a link to the "application" layer for the still images or videos transmission.

The team project originality is the "system" approach retained in an objective of global optimization of the wireless communication chain quality relative to the aimed application. Also, critical elements of this chain are not strictly studied singly.

For developping the set of this work, three complementary themes have been identified. They are generally leaded through transverse projects.

Three complementary Themes

The advanced study of critical elements of a wireless transmission:

that is to say the radio channel and the information coding. The objective consists to model and simulate their behaviour, and also to develop optimizations.

The optimization of the radio link quality for transmitting still images and videos:

of which the main element is a joint coding of information allowing an adequacy between the expected service and the referred channel.

The realistic simulation of the physical layer for wireless networks:

allowing to take into consideration performances of each radio link brought into play in a wireless network and to estimate their impact on routing.
